The old record was 65 by Harry Welch on May 17, 1968. Barry was playing with Dr. Sam Black, Bruce White and Walter Converse. Wreck Polk County Deputy James Carter, driving a Sheriff Dept, car pulled out of a dirt road onto the Pea Ridge Road Thursday in front of a car driven by Leroy Staley. There were no injuries. The patrol car had to be towed away. Highway Patrolman David Satterfield investigated the accident. Tickets Available For Senior League The State Senior League baseball tournament will be held at Harmon Field July 27 — August 1st There will be at least 12 games in the double elimination tournament. Admission at the gate will be $2 per game. Advance tickets for all the games is $12, and they may be purchased from Herman Scruggs or Larry Phillips. The death toll rose to 113 Sunday in Kansas City, Mo. where two walkways collapsed into the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Monday’s Charlotte Observer had a large colored picture of Pearson's Falls. It is listed as one of the exotic spots for perfect picnics less than 2 hours away. Monday’s Asheville Citizen had a picture and article about Phil and Gaye Johnson, who will entertain at the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild Wednesday through Saturday in the Asheville Civic Center. Bill Rogers won the 110th British Open Championship Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dalton have returned from their vacation at Carolina Beach. Jack Glisson, who formerly owned and operated the Tryon Western Auto Store a number of years ago, is mayor of Carolina Beach. Mr. Dalton attended a Council Meeting while there and said that the beach town has problems that Continued On Back Page Little League Friday's Results Polk County 11, Forest City 9 Polk County 18, Rutherfordton 17 Saturday's Results Rutherfordton 11, Polk County 5 Polk County Loses In Finals The Polk County Little League team made a dramatic comeback before losing to Rutherfordton 11 to 5 Saturday in the Little League Area I finals at Green Creek. Friday afternoon a postponed game with Cool Springs of Forest City was resumed at the top of the 4th with Polk County trailing 6 to 0. The Polk County boys came back to score 9 runs and won the game 11 to 9. Following this, the Polk County team outhit Rutherfordton to win 18 to 17 in seven innings. The game was tied 17 to 17 at the end of six innings. In the finals on Saturday, Polk County had the men on base but couldn’t drive them home as they went down 11 to 5. Friday David Bollinger and Shane Littlejohn both hit home runs and Shane hit another home run Saturday. Almost every boy on the Polk County LitUe League team hit well Friday as they scored 29 runs. Rutherford now plays Belmont at Cherryville in the finals of District One. Both teams had one loss in area play. Roadrunners Tom Foster, Allen Peeples and Gary Taylor of the Polk County Road Runners ran in the Peach Festival at Gaffney, S. C. Sat urday. There were 800 runners in the event. Tom Foster won his age group in the 3.1 mile event in 17 minutes. In the 6 mile event, Gary Taylor ran it in 40 minutes and Allen Peoples in 49 minutes. Paterson-Wilson Mrs Elizabeth M. Paterson of Tryon and Dr. Julius Lane Wilson of Sante Fe, New Mexico were married on Friday, July 17th, at a private ceremony in the Tryon Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John D. Smith officiated. Members of the families attending were Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm G. Maginnis, Sr. of Covington, La., 1st. Lt. Malcolm Maginnis, Jr., New Orleans, La., Mary Louise Wilson, New York, N. Y., Henry J. Minton, Argyle, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. W. Kenneth Curfman, Cincinnatio, Ohio and in addition, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest B. Kellogg of Landrum, S. C. Mrs. Maginnis and Mr. Kellogg were the couple's attendants. Mrs. John D. Smith was the organist at the ceremony and a reception at the Tryon home was arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Curfman. Dr. and Mrs. Wilson will live in Tryon. Lightning Hits Church Steeple During the electrical storm last Thursday evening, lightning hit the steeple on the Columbus Baptist Church, causing some damage.
